Finding the right destination to travel to as a student on a budget can be difficult as some cities can be expensive. Here is a list of my favourite budget-friendly holiday destinations for students that will make it easier for you to stick to your budget!

Zadar, Croatia

Zadar is a great destination for students traveling on a budget, as it is super easy to stay within your budget and still have fantastic food, drinks, and experiences here! Accommodation in an Air BnB can be as cheap as £25 a night, which is really affordable, especially if you are travelling in a pair or group. There is so much to do in Zadar, from visiting the old town, to taking a ferry ride to the surrounding islands. Zadar is at the top of my list for students travelling on a budget!

Church of St. Donatus, Zadar

Bratislava, Slovakia

Bratislava is perfect for students as the flights are cheap, the accommodation is cheap, and the food and drinks are affordable! You can find some beautiful Air BnBs in Bratislava for a budget-friendly prices, and flights can be as little as £20. Although Bratislava is only a small city, there is plenty see, such as the Bratislava castle, and there are plenty of bars and restaurants to fill up your time here. Bratislava is a lovely city to spend a few days in.

Bratislava Castle

Brussels, Belgium

Brussels is packed with things to see, so its easy to keep busy here for a weekend trip! Although the shuttle bus from the airport to the city centre is quite expensive, flights tend to be super cheap and really good flight times. There are ways to eat cheap here, such as by eating at the Frites stands. There is plenty of unique bars to try Belgian beer in, or if you are visiting during the first weekend of September, there is the Belgian Beer weekend at the Grand Palace with over 500 different beers to try! Be sure to make the most of the metro, otherwise you will be doing a lot of walking around the city.

Cathedral of St Michael and St Gudula, Brussels

Vienna, Austria

Vienna is such a beautiful city with so much sight-seeing to do and beautiful cafes to visit! Vienna can be expensive, however, there are many ways to spend less, such as eating at less expensive restaurants or buying food from supermarkets. There is always so much going on in Vienna, and there are so many amazing Christmas markets during November and December! At the Rathausplatz, there are different events each month, such as concerts and film festivals, so make sure to check what’s on when you’re visiting.

St Stephens Cathedral, Vienna

Milan, Italy

Flights to Milan always tend to be budget-friendly and it is easy to spend just a few days there for a quick break. Milan is an amazing place to visit as it is really easy to get to Lake Como from here for either a day trip or your whole stay! Public transport in Italy is easy to use and budget-friendly, so you can easily get around. Although when you get to Milan it can be quite expensive, there are so many ways to keep your trip budget friendly, by staying in accommodation a little outside the centre and eating further from the major tourist sights.
